16 November 2009 / I love to tell the story!

This week we're going to be thinking about the curriculum Harris calls kerygma, and in doing so our focus situation is a little different. Rather than a narrative, I'm going to post here a series of video clips (depending on the speed of your connection, that page may take a while to download). Each one represents the Bible in some way. As you work through the cluster questions, your group should think about yourselves as learners in the midst of a culture which gives you these representations of the Bible. So consider the learning situation the exercise of watching the clips, and consider yourselves the learners.

Individual work

Read the CIQ summary from last week.

Read Opening the Book of Faith, Diane Jacobson, et. al. and take the book quiz.

By Friday, comment on one of the group summaries (in a way that is more than simply a "verbal bouquet").

On Friday, fill out a CIQ for the past week

Just FYI: information on RSS feeds, a video tutorial on them (these are easy ways to get updates from the class blog, and these tutorials were originally designed for a different class but could be useful to us here)

Cluster question assignments

One quick note: viewing these assigned video clips is best done only with adults, and often provokes a lot of feelings. In your small groups you might want to take some time early in the cycle simply to process the feelings evoked by the exercise.

Group one : Assessment

Group two : Bible

Group three : Ritual

Group four : History

Group five : Learning

Your small group summary is due on Wednesday, posted to the course blog.
