14 April 2008 / Social Networking and Web 2.0

This week my assumption is that the three hours of class time will be spent both in "lab" -- meaning: working on your second video -- and online, as I will be out of town at a conference in Indianapolis. This is the week we’ll be working on questions of social networking, and trying out some of the Web 2.0 tools. If you don’t already have a Facebook, MySpace, DigitalDivide, or Linked-in account, I’d like you to set one up by the beginning of this week. (Note: I would like you to have ONE account, not one at each of these services. Just choose the service you're most interested in, and you can suggest a different one if you'd like.)

Closer to this date I will post the specific discussion assignment and explain how we'll hold our class conversation.

Please read the following: Danah Boyd’s post on social networking, Danah Boyd's post on youth and consumption, Digital leadership on social networking, Scott Cormode on “Multilayered leadership,” NYTimes piece on youth and news, and a few other posts TBA.

Helpful resources include: Danah Boyd's other papers, TBA
